Blog vs. Wiki

Blog vs. Wiki

Blogs and wikis are web 2.0 technologies that allow creators to host an array of material from text to videos and music online.  Unlike previous web 1.0 technologies, they allow visitors to interact, contribute material and publish new content.

Generally speaking a blog post is one person's opinion where people can opt in to have a discussion through comments.  It is geared towards sharing of news, knowledge or expertise.  Being a blogger with huge following allows the blogger to profit through advertisement on their blog site or by using affiliate marketing where they promote products from sponsors.

While blogs allow readers to interact with the blogger through comments it however, doesn't allow them to modify the blog posts.  And this is one key distinction between blogs and wikis.  Wikis are more collaborative due to the fact that they enable readers to modify content that are already posted or even create new content page where others can contribute.

Blogs can be used for collaboration in variety of ways.  But these days blogs are being used massively by businesses for brand exposure and business expansion.  And in the current data driven economy, businesses are collaboration with bloggers based on their interest groups, networks, location, industry niche and so on.

A new use for a wiki that has not been done yet could be translating foreign songs.  When you try to translate a foreign song using service like google translate, it translate the song in literal sense but we know songs have a deeper meaning and require a unique understanding that computers don't.  So a wiki where a native person could translate the song and somebody else could contribute or correct their work.

Blog about Twitter

Blog about Twitter      Twitter is an microblogging and social networking service where users can post and interact with others.  The messages or short microblogs are known as "tweets" and users are limited to 280 characters in a tweet.      Comparing Twitter to Blackboard discussion is like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda.  Honda is good but Ferrari is just better with its design and performance capabilities.  I think of the same while comparing Twitter discussion to Blackboard discussion.  Twitter has better design.  Its user focused design is miles ahead of Blackboard and the numerous features it has over Blackboard can be another blog post in itself.  I can see seamlessly and in blazing speed what my colleagues are talking about and see a specific topic discussion by using hashtag while in Blackboard I would have to go to a discussion, then click on one my friends post, then anoth...

HW Creativity

HW Creativity        Being creative and thinking outside of the box is crucial for any brand to be competitive.  And innovation in digital media has enabled a lot of avenues for companies and even individuals to be creative and reach out to audience.  Digital marketing has taken huge steps towards making creative marketing and made transitional media channels almost obsolete.       In the article written by Lisa Mulcahy titled "How user-generated content can improve your social media marketing strategy", we get to learn different ways that parties involved in marketing strategy can use social media to become more effective and efficient in their marketing efforts.  Lisa suggests that sharing links in as many relevant sites helps gain exposure, offering incentives like promo code, freebies, etc., helping user shape their content like if you want a video review, unboxing video, or a review.  All of these tactics are being u...
